For years, the Laco Atacama has stood as one of the most rugged and recognizable watches in the German brand’s portfolio. Designed to endure the harshest conditions in the field, it has earned the respect of professionals and adventurers alike. Now comes the third generation – the Atacama.3 – building on the proven concept of the Atacama.2 with a host of thoughtful upgrades: even more durability, improved ergonomics, and meticulous attention to detail.
At first glance, it retains the bold design DNA — a commanding silhouette, the prominent countdown bezel, and the unmistakable case shape that define the collection. But a closer look reveals refinements that push comfort and functionality to new heights, whether for daily wear or extreme scenarios.

Inspired by the flat quartz version, the new case has been slimmed down to less than 12 mm in height, resulting in a significantly more comfortable fit. Alongside flexible lugs, the watch sits surprisingly well on the wrist, even with its substantial 46 mm diameter.
The signature crown at 12 o’clock remains a visual anchor, but now incorporates a clever upgrade: a bright orange indicator clearly shows whether the crown is fully screwed down — an essential feature to preserve the watch’s impressive water resistance up to 500 meters (50 ATM). This feature debuted on the Atacama Quartz UTC and now makes its way into a mechanical model for the first time.

The dial has been completely reworked. A newly beveled chapter ring adds visual depth and improves readability from shallow angles.
Generous SuperLumiNova application ensures dependable legibility in the dark, while the two-tone hands enhance orientation and quick time reading at a glance.

For the first time, the Atacama features a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating, a material typically reserved for high-end timepieces. It’s harder, more scratch-resistant, and far more durable than the already robust PVD coating. The deep matte black finish underlines the technical character of the watch and stands up to even the harshest environments.
Responding to strong demand from professionals, the Atacama.3 is now also offered with a solid stainless steel bracelet, also finished in DLC. A sturdy folding clasp with safety catch prevents accidental opening, and quick-release spring bars allow easy strap changes — whether you’re switching to the included rubber strap or customizing the watch to fit your mission.
A sapphire crystal case back offers a glimpse of the Laco 200 automatic movement, based on the reliable Sellita SW200 in Elaboré grade. It features hacking seconds, a date display, and proven mechanical precision. For those seeking even more accuracy, an optional Top grade upgrade is available.
On the front, a flat, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal ensures durability for everyday challenges.
